This steam-powered train runs from Durango, Colorado, to the old mining town of Silverton. Completed in 1882, the railroad originally transported people, supplies, gold and silver between Durango and mines in the San Juan Mountains. See the original train depot in Durango built in 1882, then take a ride on the train, which runs to Cascade Canyon in winter or all the way to Silverton in summer. For more on this legendary railroad, check out the two rail museums displaying historic locomotives and the coach from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
