Originally founded as a mission by the Jesuits in 1632 during the Spanish Colonial Period, San Ignacio Miní is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Forgotten for decades and overgrown with thick vegetation, the baroque-style ruins were rediscovered in 1987. Located near the present-day San Ignacio valley in northeast Argentina, the ruins are one of the best preserved of several missions built in the region. The stunning remains of the magnificent church, built with red sandstone, are one of its main attractions.
