The Tambopata Rivers juts off from the Madre de Dios River and forms the border between Peru and Bolivia. Left largely untouched by colonial hands, the Tambopate River and surrounding region has been protected as a national reserve since 1977. The Tambopata Research Center serves a remote jungle lodge and helps catalog the highly diverse region. Take a boat or kayak tour to see the hundreds upon thousands reptiles, amphibians, birds, and plants that call the rainforest home. Rest at an Amazon jungle lodge - or, for the curious, travel into the surrounding jungles with a guide to see the variety of nocturnal creatures living in the dark forests.
