Often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, the massive colorful gorge is 10 miles long and more than 3,000 feet deep with Waimea Canyon State Park making up 1,866 acres of the ravine. Waimea Canyon was formed millions of years ago because of erosion from rivers and rainwater. The word "Waimea" is Hawaiian for "red water" caused by the canyon's soil. The official lookout is Waimea Canyon Overlook, but great vistas continue on Waimea Canyon Drive. There are many trails in the canyon area, as well. Don't miss the rainbow of hues offered by this natural wonder!
